The Friends of the Portland Library proudly support and promote the Portland Library by informing town residents of resources and services the Library provides; by securing materials and sponsoring special projects for the Library; and, by encouraging donations to enhance cultural and educational opportunities afforded to the residents of Portland through the Library.

 Books for Babies

Attention Parents of newborns to age 18 months

As your child's first teacher in language and literacy development, the Friends want to support your efforts by offering free “Books for Babies” kits.  

Each kit contains:

 1. Baby board book                    

 2. Baby’s first library card

 3. How to guides:

  • Babies Love Books
  • Babies Need Words Every Day
  • Ways to Create Happy Memories and Help Your Child Learn

 4. Information on how to join the library's "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program

 

To receive your free kit, stop by the Portland Library Children's Department or the Portland Town Clerk's office.

Second Hand Prose Book Shop


When visiting the Library, take an opportunity to browse the  FPL Book Shop. 

We have mysteries, general fiction, non-fiction, romance, teen and children’s used books, as well as used puzzles and DVDs.

October 18 - 20, 2024

Thank you to the many volunteers and book sale patrons who helped make last year's sale such a success. We raised approximately $2000 to support the Library.
